Welcome to Podcasting Over 50 and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in 5 minutes or less. Today's question is, how many episodes should I release on launch day? This question comes from Gail, an aspiring podcaster who's getting ready to launch a show for her health coaching business. Hey, Gail, how exciting! Thank you so much for being a listener.

My recommendation is to release 3 episodes on your launch day plus a trailer. I'll put a link in the description to a separate episode that's all about the trailer. Now, I recommend 3 episodes on launch day primarily to provide binge material. When a new listener discovers your show and loves it, you want them to keep going. One episode gives them a taste, and they may or may not come back for more next week.

3 episodes lets them settle in and start building the know, like, and trust factor. They are more likely to connect with you and make it a priority to come back the next week. The other reason I recommend 3 episodes is because of the algorithm. Podcast apps pay attention to the activity around your show in the first 24 to 48 hours. So listens, new followers, and how much of the episodes people are completing. 3 episodes means that every supporter generates 3 listens instead of 1. And that concentrated burst helps your show chart and get recommended. So releasing 3 episodes on launch day is my strong recommendation.

If you want to know what to say in those first 3 episodes to get the right listeners to stick around, that is exactly the kind of thing we map out step by step inside the 50+ Podcasters Launch Club. You can find all of the details at thepodcastteacher.com/club. And if you have a podcasting question, submit it at thepodcastteacher.com/question, and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode. Until next time, happy podcasting!
