Welcome to Podcasting Over 50 and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in 5 minutes or less! Today's question is… Am I too old to start a podcast?

This is a question that I’ve heard countless times from the folks I’ve worked with, so I thought it was an appropriate one for our first official FAQ Friday under the new Podcasting Over 50 branding.

The answer is a resounding no. You are not too old to start a podcast. In fact, I'd argue you're right on time.

Edison Research's 2026 Infinite Dial study found that Americans age 55 and up are the fastest growing group of online audio listeners. Monthly listening in that age group jumped from 52% in 2024 to 70% in 2026. That's nearly 20 percentage points in just two years, and is the most growth seen in any group.

So your peers are already listening… they're just waiting for a show like yours.

And as a host, your age is an asset. You have something newer podcasters don't, which is decades of real experience, real client stories, and lessons you actually lived.

Surface-level information is everywhere these days, especially with AI. But you have actual stories, examples, and experiences to share. People need that now more than ever.

Now, I know the tech side might feel intimidating, but it's much simpler than most people expect. If you can send an email, you can publish a podcast episode. Seriously.

If you'd like step-by-step support from planning all the way through launch, that's exactly what I do inside the brand new 50+ Podcasters Launch Club. Doors are opening soon and you can stay in the loop by visiting ThePodcastTeacher.com.

Your future listeners just care about whether you can help them solve their problems and reach their goals…they don’t care about how old you are. So, start that podcast ASAP!

If you have a podcasting question, submit it at ThePodcastTeacher.com/question and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode! Until next time, happy podcasting!
